Today's Flowers #2

My friend Luiz Santilli Jr. has started a Today's Flowers Meme, check it out. Come and join with your flower photos. You can get in on the ground floor.

This is the Stag-horn Sumac Tree - Rhus typhina. It is outside my work place. I thought this unusual flower deserved recognition.

This is a beautiful flower and the leaves on the tree turn a bright red in the fall to match the flower.
You can click on the photos to get a better look.

We used to have one of these trees in our yard. It was beautiful. They grew wild around us, too. I was allergic to them. NOT so beautiful!

Oh yes - they deserve a place in the spotlight! Good contribution!
Cheers, Klaus

We have these sumac trees here in Connecticut, and I love the color they bring.

I pass one of those every day when I walk. I knew it was some sort of sumac but didn't know the rest of the name. I learned something today thanks to you!

We also used to have some of these trees in our yard when I was a child. They grew wild, and we called them Essigbaum or Götterbaum. In fall, the leaves had all colours from yellow to red. I loved them very much!

They are very pretty and the leaves turn such a beautiful colour in the fall as well. They grow wild all around the Kahshe gardens and we are constantly pulling them out where they invade the gardens.

Very nice, FG. I love the colour of the sumac leaves in fall too. And if you soak the berries, strain and add sugar you can make a drink that tastes a lot like lemonade. (Git that from Euell Gibbons. Do you remember him?)

Margaret Cloud said...

Very pretty, the Native American Indians made lemonade like drink from its crushed fruit.

I have seen these by the roadside. Such beutiful color, especially in the fall. Aren't they poisonous?

Gypsy: There is a Poison Sumac but it has a white flower. This one is used to make a drink and as a spice. Amazing what nature will bring you.

Gorgeous color. What a great tree. My brother planted a sumac some time ago but it doesn't thrive in our climate.

Your Staghorn Sumac is really producing some bright red colors.

Well, I just joined Luiz Santilli Junior's flowers group and planted some flowers and they are already in bloom at my new blog, Thunder Maker.

It looks like I am going to have to try and catch up with everyone. So many blogs to stop at and make comments.

I have seen these several times, but never knew what they were. I have only seen them from a distance, never up close enough to see the texture of the flower. Great shots.
