Veterans Day

In honor of Veterans Day I'm posting some photos from Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio. I am starting with a cannon/mortar from WWI that was to honor the service men. This is a small Chapel at the front of the cemetery. The rear of the cemetery is a large rock that was used by the Indians and explorers to cross the Cuyahoga River which was called Standing Rock (you can see the rock here). Captain Brady (if you want to read about Captain Brady)wanted to use the rock to cross the river but the Indians were waiting for him.
This is the Celtic Cross on top of the building.

The top of the door has a Star of David.

This was one of the older tombstones I could find. it is from 1877.

The Veterans deserve to have a day to honor their service. It is a day of remembrance for those who are gone and those who served.

Northeaster Ohio has a lot of history like New England and that cemetery was so very interesting. Thanks for posting. I particularly liked the Celtic cross on the church.

Wonderful Veteran's Day post, Fishing Guy! I really loved seeing the cemetery...I love old cemeteries! And that Standing Rock is so fascinating! Wonder why it sits out there with no other large rocks closeby. Really wonderful post!
