Camera Critters # 38

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

I thought I would share the ducks from the neighborhood stream. They are Mallard Ducks which are the most prevalent in our area. How many do you see?
The males can be spotted by the bright green heads and great coloring.
The females are a more protective brown color for safety.
This one males head was so deeply colored it almost looks black.

As you can see there is a pretty good flock that inhabits the small stream. I can see them here on most days as I cross a little bridge.
There are of great camera critters out there. Go and visit a few.

I'm really fond of ducks. I used to live on the Thames at Runnymede and had a whole flock waddle up to the back door for breakfast each morning!
Such characters.

Wonderful ducks... I love the Drakes in the sunshine and how the greens just shimmer so beautifully.
I haven't seen too many birds right now and that's a good thing with this arctic front above us.
I imagine they are tucked away somewhere warm, I hope.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, my friend.
Marcell and I made a toast for you and your family for a happy and healthy New Year for 2009.
((Hugs))

Lovely photos. When I was younger the town we lived in had a pond near our home and I used to always go and sit on the bridge and watch the ducks.

Mallards in the snow. I just don't think of them as snow birds. The males look so good with the snow.

Our mallards are in hiding for winter. Nice to share your beauties.

I love ducks! We adore our little Huey and Lewis. They are just delightful and make such funny sounds when contented our announcing a food-find or simply snoozing in the sun.

Too adorable for words!

Blessings!

Great Mallard shots, FG.
I like their little orange feet.
How do they keep from freezing in that ice cold water?

I love the male's colors - the green heads are beautiful. We lived on a canal in FL and had white ducks - boy, could they make a huge mess on our sidewalks!
Happy New Year!
