If the fish aren't biting sometimes I go on a camera quest. The nice thing about being in a boat is you are not tied down to one spot. I saw a grey/blue object near shore with a fisherman about 20 foot away. My eyes said Great Blue Heron and my mind said weeds. As I got closer I knew it wasn't weeds. I guess I got too close.
He flew away around a tree covered spine to a back bay because I had approached.
I slowly trolled into the back bay as the bird worked the shore.
He continued to work the shore as I moved with it happily snapping away.
I saw it get ready to strike but nothing happened.
It reached an area and since it had no food to eat and turned to shore.
It got out of the water and walked up on the bank
It headed into the Pine covered spine that separates the bay and the main lake. If you look closely you can see the main lake on the other side.
I went around the spine and found him on the main lake walking back to the bay.
He waded in fairly deep and I decided to let him continue his fishing and I headed home with a camera full of photos.
Thank you mister heron for the close-up meeting. I do hope you enjoyed the amazing encounter with the Great Blue Heron.

What a great story F.G. herons are a favorite of mine too.
What a wonderful series of photos! The Great Blue Heron is a beautiful bird.
That is great. And I've never seen one on land before so that's a first. Thanks for sharing.
Nice series FG!
I really like the reflection in the third photo.
Great shot, FG! And I like the narraration that you put with it.
I like those birds. And I am awe struck when they fly off.
gorgeous reflections! It must be nice to be able to shoot from a boat.
Love blue herons! You got some really nice photos, plus you managed to get within a decent range. Whistle Whistle clap clap!! I have not been able to achieve this yet! There are 4 blues where I have been taking pictures and I swear they see me park the car!(maybe I need a boat!) I have taken several pics of these blues but not in good camera range! Great job!!
Thanks for the invite to visit camera critters! Great idea! :)
I think you found some very beautiful moments, I like those kind too. A Great Blue Heron is always a favourite to find. Very nice sharing. Love your music choices too!
ann
Great action shots!
I played too :)
Very nice I love the first shot it looks amazing when it is enlarged.
What a fantastic shot of photos. Glad you were able to get up close. Very nice!
I just love herons, but sadly none around here for a while. Beaatiful shots.
Nice shots of the GBH!
As you know I too like the mobility that a boat gives and you don’t even have to get your feet wet.
The biggest drawback is that it is impossible to totally stabilize the camera. I had an encounter with a pair of Bald Eagles the other day and what I would have given to have been able to put the cam on a pod on solid ground.
FG: What a great day you had. I love the series and the reflection.
Fabulous photos FG..wonderful reflections and colour!! Great job! :D
WOW! Those are stunning images! I like the 3rd shot the most:)
Mine is posted HERE. Happy CC!~
Great job FG! That must have been fun following the Heron around. I love those big guys and they are absolutely amazing in flight.
The third shot is my favourite.
wow! it's beautiful!
the lake is like mirrors!
Wow Fish
How wonderful to meet! By this picture seems to me quite big. what size this ?
And its plumes ... change of tone as the position of the sun.
Taste!
Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful pictures! I love the reflections.
Nice series! I don't think I've ever seen one walking around anywhere but at the edge of the water. I'd love to be out in a boat snapping their photos!
Great photos captured of the heron - especially neat to see him walking on land! (I'm so used to only seeing them in the shallow water.)
Nice photos. Thanks for visiting my blog.
Very nice! I have not been able to get that close but always love seeing them!! Great story to accompany the photos.
So many rare birds today in Camera Critters...and here too! I never seen the blue heron. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely photos. They just sparkle in the afternoon sun.
So fascinating as if the heron is leading you somewhere :D
Spectacular any fish ?
Hi Tom. Great pics. I have seen quite a few water birds around here, but I either don't have my camera with me, or the birds aren't close enough to capture, which is usually the case.
Lisa
great photos!
Nice photos you've got here. My very first entry is up as well. Take care!
Cheers,

Neat heron shots-I enjoyed you trailing him.
I can just imagine being in a boat following that Heron. Must have been fun. I enjoyed these shots and I love the reflection of the heron in the water shots. :-)
