Camera Critters #28

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

If the fish aren't biting sometimes I go on a camera quest. The nice thing about being in a boat is you are not tied down to one spot. I saw a grey/blue object near shore with a fisherman about 20 foot away. My eyes said Great Blue Heron and my mind said weeds. As I got closer I knew it wasn't weeds. I guess I got too close.
He flew away around a tree covered spine to a back bay because I had approached.
I slowly trolled into the back bay as the bird worked the shore.
He continued to work the shore as I moved with it happily snapping away.
I saw it get ready to strike but nothing happened.
It reached an area and since it had no food to eat and turned to shore.
It got out of the water and walked up on the bank
It headed into the Pine covered spine that separates the bay and the main lake. If you look closely you can see the main lake on the other side.
I went around the spine and found him on the main lake walking back to the bay.
He waded in fairly deep and I decided to let him continue his fishing and I headed home with a camera full of photos.
Thank you mister heron for the close-up meeting. I do hope you enjoyed the amazing encounter with the Great Blue Heron.
To my friends on Camera Critters:
My World Tuesday is a new meme that will be starting on Monday October 20th at 8:00 PM GMT / 3:00 PM EDT. This is your chance to share photos of the world around you. It is brand new and will develop as the weeks go by. Please stop by on Monday night or Tuesday to see who has joined and if you want to come along. I would like to see where you live and what revolves around your world . The latest Sky Watch Team is also running this meme.

Love blue herons! You got some really nice photos, plus you managed to get within a decent range. Whistle Whistle clap clap!! I have not been able to achieve this yet! There are 4 blues where I have been taking pictures and I swear they see me park the car!(maybe I need a boat!) I have taken several pics of these blues but not in good camera range! Great job!!
Thanks for the invite to visit camera critters! Great idea! :)

Nice shots of the GBH!

As you know I too like the mobility that a boat gives and you don’t even have to get your feet wet.

The biggest drawback is that it is impossible to totally stabilize the camera. I had an encounter with a pair of Bald Eagles the other day and what I would have given to have been able to put the cam on a pod on solid ground.

Nice series! I don't think I've ever seen one walking around anywhere but at the edge of the water. I'd love to be out in a boat snapping their photos!

Great photos captured of the heron - especially neat to see him walking on land! (I'm so used to only seeing them in the shallow water.)

Hi Tom. Great pics. I have seen quite a few water birds around here, but I either don't have my camera with me, or the birds aren't close enough to capture, which is usually the case.
