Wednesday Potpourri #2

Wednesday is a time to catch up on photos that I've wanted to post but just haven't had time. In that vane I give you the following photos today.

The line at our local Family Video was fairly long today, it was extended clear to the roof. Every one wanted the same Alfred Hitchcock movie 'The Birds'. I wonder why.
I shot this Yellow Legged Meadowhawk sitting on a cement drain at a local pond that I visit for the first time.
There was a Brown Praying Mantis at work on the side of the building. This is 75 miles away and is the same species as the one at home. Note the injured right front foot.
My grandson soccer boy told me to take this bug on the front window because he liked its neat color.
I didn't have the heart to tell him that these bugs were on the building next to where I found the Praying Mantis. Do they look familiar? They are Box Elder bugs.
This was a pretty neat Bumblebee shot I got at The Kent Public Library.
This is a bug I found on our siding, I think it's called a stink bug.

Do you know what a group of crows is called? Well it is a 'Murder of Crows'. I enjoyed the movie of the same name.
And finally, there was a Potato Bug on my shed in the rear of my property. I was in the process of painting the shed and had one coat of primer on the shed. I need to show the changes to the shed next week.
I had wide variety of subjects and yet all in the same critter vane.

Love the bugs. Photographed a potato bug for the first time last March. They're very pretty bugs for such a common name.

Neat!

Tom- Your meadowhawk shot is probably a yellow-legged meadowhawk. Cardinal meadowhawks are not known from Ohio. This is a tough group to ID. Many species look exactly the same and can only be ID by looking at their reproductive organs under a scope. Very nice shots, it is amazing how many insects are still out and about. You black and orange insects look like Box Elder bugs.

Nice bug shots! What is with Box Elder bugs and grouping together like that? I didn't grow up with them, but my husband did. When we moved here we would open our door in the morning, and they would be COVERED with them. Too yukky for me! (And bugs don't freak me out.)

Terrific potpourri!

LOL! So, everyone is renting THE BIRDS, huh? Well, I suppose it's especially fitting for Halloween. ;-)

Superb potpourri shots you've posted.

Oh! I almost forgot. I have an award waiting for you on my blog.

Interesting potpourri of bugs you got there!
I can very seldom get them to sit still long enough to get a decent shot.

Hello Fish

I see you've posted many photos while I was away.

I will return here and make a general comment. But one caught my attention, one where dozens of insects piled.

Um abraço
Marcos

You certainly did get a good collection of bugs in this post and all of them are quite common here and there if we all just took the time to look. Nice macro photography.

What a buggy day you had! Love the birds on the roof! That potato bug is intersting looking and I've never seen that meadowhawk before. Great shots!

The bugs seem to dominate this post though there are just 3 of them. The stink bug is my pick of this series

Lots of variety in bugs today FG!
Those box elder bugs are pretty but yucky all there together.
This is a good idea to get in those shots you haven't used.

Great insects post! I enjoyed seeing all the different bugs. I'm not as much into creepy-crawlies as other creatures but they are wonderful non-the-less and soimportant to the cycle of life.
