Wednesday Potpourri

Today is going to be a mixture of a trip to Lake Hodgson this morning. There was a Canada Geese family on the ramp as I tried to back my boat in. They headed for the water but a strange thing happened. One of the goslings caught its foot in a chain link fence. I heard it crying so went over to help it get loose. It was easy for me to get it loose but it went away from the water and into the woods. I tried a couple of times to head it to the water but that didn't work. I put the boat into the water and was taking the truck to park it when the gosling ran across the road in front of me. Apparently the mother had be calling and junior was able to hook back up with the parents. Here are the happy families all back together and on the water. Check out the size of the one family. There are at least 16 goslings there. I ended up with 22 Crappie that ran from 11" to 8". I fished for about 3 hours. I caught two small Perch and this War-mouth Bluegill. They are so very colorful. The Crappies definitely think it is different. Can you hear them saying "You don't belong."?
I hope you all have a great evening.

Wow those goslings - I counted 17 but one guy looks bigger than the others. Glad they all got reunited. I don't think I have seen so many goslings at once!

You have a great catch of fish there. My hubby would be more than happy with just one of those!

You definitely had an interesting day. It was nice of you to attempt to help the gosling and I'm glad Mama was able to guide it back to the family. It certainly looks as if you had a very successful fishing expedition.

I haven't had crappie in years! And it's my very favorite - my grandpa's too. There were only a few ponds in and around Columbia MO that stocked them. I guess they can make pond/lakes extremely muddy so aren't terribly desirable.
I'd put freshwater fish up against saltwater any day. Fresh would win out!

Nice haul you got there.

Hi Tom, you are so nice to help the little gosling out. Glad also that the baby found his Mama... You are a good guy, Tom....

Now--did you throw those sweet little Crappies back in the water so that they could live also????? ha ha

It's amazing how the goslings can pick up on the parent's voice and reconnect in seconds!! I am glad the family had reunited.
I have seen some large Geese families here as well and some small ones as well... as small as one.

I hope you are well.
