I was walking past the garden the other day and the pepper plants had a guest. It was the Common Garter Snakes. They are referred to as Gardener Snakes because of the time they spend in the garden. This was actually two snakes curled together for warmth high in the plant to get the sun.
I don't like snakes that well but a chance for a photo overcomes my fears. You can see the way the two are weaved together.
So my final shot is a close up of that reptilian eye and skin.
I do hope you enjoyed a close look at the gardener's friend. They eat bugs and other pests in the garden. I hope they are not there at harvest time.

Nice! I have been trying to get a good snake photo since I started my nature blog. Still don't have one.
Great job Tom and I will add very brave of you. Even though he is quite harmless!

What beauties Tom, love the close up too.
Great captures of the garter snakes. I have seen one but never two together. I am glad that are at your place and not mine.
Great photos for camera critters.
love the header loooking like my back yard sandy
I've found that my feelings about some types of animals have changed as I photographed them. Snakes included.
I'm used to seeing garter snakes that are bri.ht green. Methinks I need to do some reading about the different types.
I know that snakes can be so useful --in getting rid of some of our garden pests. BUT--I am still scared of them.. Don't know why--but I am!!!!
Neat picture.

Okay, on the one hand I don't like snakes...on the other hand I still don't like snakes...but I do make an exception for the Garter snake...this is one that does not sent me screaming through the woods like my feet were on fire. I happen to love them. Don't ask me why. I began trying to catch and hold them when I was about 2 years old, or so the Mama stories said...must be a genetic flaw...love the pictures.

This is one creepy post!
The only thing I dislike more than cows.....is SNAKES!
The last picture really shows the facial features well.Hope they find a safe place for winter.
Blessings,Ruth
What a great sighting Tom, are you sure they weren't just snuggling?
Sleek and sly! What a guy!
I know snakes can be helpful in gardens and you've captured some great shots ;-)
Hugs and blessings,
While I appreciate your wonderful pictures of your camera critters, I wouldn't mind at all if you kept them up there.
Great photos! I love that they were twined together and those green leaves set off their color nicely.
Great shots of that creepy snake.
They are beautiful! We don't get many water snakes any more. It is a shame. Ou neighbour used to kill them. They do such good - balance of nature and cycle of life.
Hi, nice shots, I'm leaving quickly..... :)
I know they are good for the garden but I still don't like them! Great shots.
Looks like they are mating Tom. What a lovely snake. I am glad you took pictures for us.
Interesting, interesting. Good photos. Bet they made you jump when you saw them!
great entry for CC. wonderful captured..
Tom, snakes are not... my favourite animals ;-) , but your pictures are so beautiful!
Now I take to my heels!!!
I just crossed path with a garden snake in a public park this afternoon. My younger son said it's just a harmless little snake and he wanted to catch it but I told him to leave it alone. Of course I did managed to captured it in photos.
Good Grief! I saw the word in your title and still had to come look!
I don't like snakes at all, but it's a lovely capture - especially the last photo. S-s-s-scary~! (LOL)
I'm not a big friend of snakes but those are great photos. Did you get any golf or fishing in this weekend?
wow..u managed to get those pictures..
Such clear photos of the snake-really nice.
Wow! Snakes in the garden! What beautiful captures you got too...very nice post!
