My World Tuesday Season # 2 Episode # 8

This is my posting for the My World Meme. It is hosted by Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Louise, Sylvia and myself. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Check out the new layout at the My World site. I will be travelling tomorrow and Wednesday so I will get back to you when I return.

This is a look at the John Davey Arboretum that is across the road from the Davey Tree main office complex. There are plenty of trees surrounding the area hence the name.

A log cabin was moved into the area. The cabin was from Lisbon, Ohio and was built in 1808. From 1808 to 1833, it was the home of a newspaper called The Ohio Patriot. It had been used as a jail house somewhere in its history. It is well restored and a neat place to see as you travel State Route 43 North out of the city. The parking nearby is very poor.

There are a lot of neat sites around the world you can visit by clicking above.

Today's Flowers # 68

My friend Luiz from Brazil does the Today's Flowers Meme, check it out. Come and join with your flower photos. Sunday at 2 GMT is the post time.

This is a wild apple tree near a park during the Spring.

The tree was loaded with blooms and putting on a show.

I think these apple blossoms are very pretty.

You can see a lot of great flowers at the above site.

Camera Critters # 86 - Wild Turkey

Being Thanksgiving week I thought I would display some wild turkey I saw one day along the road.

There was a large flock probably of one family.

They stayed around a long time and I got quite a few photos of the gang.

You can see a lot of critters above.

Sky Watch Season # 4 Episode # 20

Sky Watch Friday this is the place. Please check out the site and link in if you wish to participate. There were a lot of people with beautiful Sky photos last week. You can link in from my side bar or at the start of this post. You can link a 3:00 PM EDT on Thursdays. SWF is run by Klaus, Louise, Wren, Sandy, Sylvia and myself.

I saw this number 9 in Roman numerals from some contrails during the Summer while in my back yard.

The small airplanes from the Kent State airport nearby in Stow often fill my sky. They use this sky as their learning to fly area.

I do hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving.

Header Competition # 7

It is time again to change the header. MacTomDarla and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. Go to the other sites to see their interpretation of  Tom's suggestion of a "motion". We are keeping the competition small, limited to just to this group. Since I won last week the pressure was off and I'm just trying to keep the shield in Ohio.

I did have one problem. Every time I took a photo the motion stopped. What to do, what to do. I looked at a Swallow in the motion of flight this Summer trying to get to the nest. It was an interesting photo.

Then I thought of the Great Blue Heron at the rookery this Spring spreading it's large wings as it moved through the sky.

Then there was the one I chased along the edge of the lake with the moving water in the morning light. Watch out for that tree. Wait, that is a George of the Jungle problem.

Then there was this one in the pond from last week with him moving the water with his strong legs.

But I finally decided on a Seagull in flight, I hope you like it and see the power of motion of the wings in the air.

# 1 & # 3 This is a salad plate that my wife had made. You can see # 1 at the very top. It is a yellow pepper and an olive. # 3 are the beets at the bottom of the plate. Darla guessed the olive and Joy guessed the pepper. No-one guessed the beets.

# 2 Is a drop of water at a neat fountain. Can you see the cropped portion on the left. I thought that eye made it look pretty tricky. Joan got this right off to make it three weeks in a row with a win. She had a neat bug that I thought was a snail shell in her Mystery Monday, who knew. They both had the same coloring.

The fountain was quite nice with the three levels. I had considered it for my header competition today.

It was a fun game.

What Is It XXXXII

My World post is just below.
#1 This is something you should see every day.

#2 What is this one? It is a little tricky. Just look it in the eye and figure it out.

#3 Did you ever see one of these?

I do hope you have fun.

My World Tuesday Season # 2 Episode # 7

This is my posting for the My World Meme. It is hosted by Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Louise, Sylvia and myself. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Check out the new layout at the My World site.

Last weeks views of the bridge across the Cuyahoga River where from a month ago and here is the progress since then. They have built a temporary bridge over the river and have started the bridge piers.
Here you can see the crane that is used in building the forms and locating the steel reinforcements.
From this side you can see the temporary bridge and the construction equipment on the far side of the river and the two sets of railroad tracks. It will be interesting to see how that is handled. The yellow equipment nearest to you is used to pour the concrete into the forms.
You can see a lot of great worlds above.

Today's Flowers # 67

My friend Luiz from Brazil does the Today's Flowers Meme, check it out. Come and join with your flower photos. Sunday at 2 GMT is the post time.

The beauty of this red lily can be seen. These are from my daughter-in-laws garden this summer.
The color deepens as it ages.
The beauty is still there to the end.
There are a lot of great flowers as shown above.

Camera Critters # 85 - Great Blue Heron

On a visit to Plum Creek Park I saw movement of a Great Blue Heron heading for the North shore. He was in as deep as I have ever seen a heron fish.
His movement then switched to the South shore. It did become a little shallower.
Finally it was able to walk comfortably as its strides moved the water.
It was very careful to pay attention but found no fish.
It stopped its movement right before the line in the water but still no fish.
I then decided to leave him as he moved away to the South shore to fish. Click on the photo if you can't see him. This was the distance I was shooting him.
There are a lot of neat critters on the above site.

Sky Watch Season # 4 Episode # 19

Sky Watch Friday this is the place. Please check out the site and link in if you wish to participate. There were a lot of people with beautiful Sky photos last week. These are two lake reflections from a winery I visited during the summer at sunset.
I thought the lake was especially beautiful with a neat sky. There are a couple of fish cruising the surface of the water. The sign says 'Beware of Attack Fish'.
You can visit a lot of great sites above with neat skies.

What Is It XXXXI - Answers

#1 Is a photo of a bridge support with a peeling paint job. The graffitti is something we live with in Kent. I don't understand the mentality of the kids who do it. Warren from England got this one. He is a good at guessing these photos. You can always see neat birds on his site. #2 Is a Golden Hornet Crabapple Tree that I found while searching for my header photo. If you check the header you see a little crab apple tree on the left. Joan, the bug lady, is on a role and got the correct answer again. She had a neat mystery this week. Craig: its time to step up to the plate.
I do hope you had fun. I will be gone until Thursday afternoon.

Header Competition # 6

It is time again to change the header. Mac, Tom, Darla and I have a little contest to show a new theme header each week. Go to the other sites to see their interpretation of my suggestion of a "looking up". We are keeping the competition small, limited to just to this group.

I first thought of the underside of the hi-level bridge in Kent but it didn't fill my needs. The sky was a grey overcast.
I do love to look up at sounds in the sky and even capture this fast helicopter. I've shown them before so I rejected it.
I finally settled on the Kent water tower not far from my house and I went as close to the base as possible to be "looking up". This is where I get my water and it is good to drink.

What Is It XXXXI

My World blog is directly below.

#1 Could be really easy or really hard depending on what you see. #2 this could be a real fooler, I hope the crop doesn't mess you up.
I will be travelling on Wednesday so will only be able to give credit on today's guesses.

My World - Year # 2 - Episode # 6

This is my posting for the My World Meme. It is hosted by Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Louise, Sylvia and myself. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Check out the new layout at the My World site.

The Cuyahoga River is the reason Kent exists. The bridge upstream from the Main Street bridge which I have shown on the My World site is the Crane Avenue bridge. I showed it last Winter after a train derailment closed it down. It is being replaced through the Economic Recovery Act. They are changing the intersection and making better access to the bridge. I am standing to the left of where the new bridge will cross the river.
Standing on the Crane Avenue bridge you can see the construction progressing for the bridge supports.
This is looking down the Cuyahoga River just to the left of the construction.
This is looking upstream to a more calm scene on the Cuyahoga River.

Today's Flowers # 66

My friend Luiz from Brazil does the Today's Flowers Meme, check it out. Come and join with your flower photos. Sunday at 2 GMT is the post time.

Today I'm going to show some photos from the summer time. These are some Peonies at Fish Creek. I enjoyed the reflection.
This is a Water Lily bed that I captured from the shore.
I think the Water Lily is a great flower but the white is hard to capture.
The flowers nestle in among the greenery and put on a great show.
You can see a lot of great flowers above.

Camera Critters # 84 - Mourning Dove

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating.

The Mourning Dove is a common bird in the Spring through Fall in our area. Here is one I saw near the small stream in the neighborhood. They do like the Ohio Buckeye Tree.
They check out the flower beds looking for food.
They like to come onto my deck and show there stuff.
This is a tree from the neighborhood where I saw this one.
They are very comfortable on the gravel roads. I love the iridescent strip on their neck and their red legs.
They are a neat bird. Visit some other great critter sites above.
