Camera Critters #53

Camera Critters by Misty Dawn, go here to see who's participating. This week is a post from the Cuyahoga Valley National Park heron rookery. It is easy to find this place and a lot of cameras were clicking away. I met some nice people while there. I was standing by the guard rail next to a road. Great parking for the view.

This is a view of the rookery from that you get. There are quite a few Great Blue Herons working on their nest. We did get snow the next week after I visited. This was a great sky day with the blue sky and white clouds. You can click on any photo for a better view. Here is one flying in with a little stick to add to the nest.
I think this is the experienced males resting after a busy morning. The boss heron on the left is trying to encourage the tired workers. The Canada Goose seems interested in what is being said. This couple is discussing the lack of branches in the nest. The wife just told the hubby what size to bring up next. This guy has a big stick and is wondering if he can get it airborne. Can you see him saying, "I think I can, I think I can". This is a fun place to capture a lot of great photos of Great Blue Herons in action. I'm definitely going back.

Fantastic! I just love the Herons and you capturing them building a nest is quite intriguing. I often watch them from my window feeding on the Brook trout and that is also quite amusing.
Your photos are remarkable!

Thanks for sharing some great pics - herons are quite rare where I live. I have never seen two of them together, let alone near a nest!

Keeping that stick steady in flight would be quite the balancing act.

You really got the herons and all are nice pictures too.

I didn't realize there was such a thing as a boss heron, but I'm glad you captured him. Did the last heron ever get airborne with that long stick? Great pictures.

Great post Tom and good photos!

I would love to visit a GBH rookery but to my knowledge none exist in my area. It does make me wonder though as we have many of them about most of the year.
