My World # 25

This is my posting for the My World meme . It is hosted by Klaus, Ivar, Sandy, Wren, Louise and myself. Last week there were over 120 people showing their worlds to us. Won't you join in, I want to see where you live and thrive. Here is part of 'My World'.

The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is one of the places you can go to see the Erie Canal and understand how the locks were used to get you from Lake Erie to Akron. There was a sign for lock # 26 on the canal which I visited. You can get the idea of a locks usage by clicking on the photo. It is set up like a lot of little dams which allowed you to go upstream/uphill one lock at a time.
This is looking at the gate which would have kept the water at the proper level.
This is looking downstream as the canal basin moves on. There is a Beaver dam just beyond this point. This is a neat sky but the wind was a little chilly. There is a bike and walk trail beside the canal.
My Daughter and I were returning to Kent after visiting the park where we saw a Great Blue Heron rookery, turtles, geese, ducks and turtles. This was on the way home and there were five deer feeding at 1:30 PM, one was in the woods. Amazingly they only left after I stopped the car for photos.
Have fun visiting the places around the world.

"I got a mule and her name is Sal." That's what will run through my mind for a while.

Nice photographs. Looks like a great place to walk.

Neat Tom... Interesting how the locks/water/dam all work together.. Sounds like you had a great day. Glad you saw somw wildlife on the way home. Sounds like a fun day with your daughter!

It's been snowing here all day --just flurrying, but the Daffodils are screaming, "What is that?"

Let's hope for no damage here the next couple of days due to the upcoming freeze.
Hugs,
Betsy

This all sounds idylic and looks it too. Great potted history too. We have no canals here, not a one. To spend time with family is always a bonus.

Lovely photo of the nature. Like those deers. They are very shy animals.

Very intersting to see part of the canal! We had a canal here too, but none of it still exists.

So nice to have a walking trail along the canal.Odd to see the deer in the middle of the day, usually they are dawn and dusk feeeders. Nice shots, and so nice you had a good day out with your daughter.

That is cool, locks are awesome engineering feats. Thank you for the visit to your world. Deer are stinkers, if you don't have a camera and it isn't hunting season, they stand and pose. I should have the scarecrow hold an old camera in my garden!

That's a lot of deer in one place!

I like National Parks. Before any of my kids were old enough for school, I'd take them to one within 5 hours of our house every week.

For some reason they do not seem to buid locks anymore. I guess with the new technology, they do not need them now. I remember as a child we used to have small channels with water in them along the streets and once a week were allowed to open a small sluice leading into your garden.

Fishing Guy, I always like your historical My Worlds. And you always get those cute critters in there too. The big game is now over and the Tar Heels put their foot down on Michigan State. But the Frozen Four is coming up. Check out my blog to find out what I'm talking about.

What a nice area, we have canacls like this and larger in the UK, they make great walking paths.
