Here are some critters from the insect world. Here is a spider and a beetle on a milkweed plant blossom.
This is a neat Silver Spotted Skipper Butterfly which posed for me.
Here are two damselflies starting to get to know each other. 
I think this is an Ebony Jewelwing Damselfly.
Why this is a Katydid, I'm not sure what Katy did to get the name. It is in the Tettgonidae family not a grasshopper. It did crawl onto my hand. That tail looks dangerous with the red end.

A wonderful selection of photos, Tom. The Katydids will soon start making their sounds at night. I have always liked to hear them. Many in this area called them "August Bugs", as that is when they are most noticeable.

Hi Tom, I have probably told you this before but my oldest son LOVED bugs. He would bring all kinds of bugs in the house---and make me holler!!!!
This morning, we were eating breakfast on our deck---watching the bluebirds. All of a sudden, we heard a ruckus ---and realized that a Bluejay was nearby the Bluebird nest. The jay was trying to get to our feeders --and probably didn't care a thing for those Bluebirds. BUT--the Bluebird family were ready to 'fight' to protect their young. That jay left quickly!!!! ha

Cute spider :-) Do Ebony Jewelwings come in different colors? Yours looks dark, I had one that looked metallic green and Becky posted one that looked blue. Maybe it is just what light they are in. I always wondered about the name Katydid....must have been bad to get named for it :-) Great shots!

Wow! I loved hearing their names and seeing them so close up. My kids have a fascination going with lightning bugs, which they'd never seen before this summer. Now after seeing all yours I'm thinking a bug hunt is in order!
I love them all-I like bugs. But my favorite is the katydid-I happen to have one who lives with me : )
