Camera Critters # 85 - Great Blue Heron

On a visit to Plum Creek Park I saw movement of a Great Blue Heron heading for the North shore. He was in as deep as I have ever seen a heron fish.
His movement then switched to the South shore. It did become a little shallower.
Finally it was able to walk comfortably as its strides moved the water.
It was very careful to pay attention but found no fish.
It stopped its movement right before the line in the water but still no fish.
I then decided to leave him as he moved away to the South shore to fish. Click on the photo if you can't see him. This was the distance I was shooting him.
There are a lot of neat critters on the above site.

What a treat, FG! And you were able to capture it so many times with your lens!

Don't think I've ever seen a heron in the water so deep. Must have been a tough day for fishing. Great captures Tom, especially from such a distance.

Nicely done! The heron have gone from here, methinks. A few ducks still. But it's getting quieter!

I think the Great Blue Heron is my favorite of the herons. I could sit and watch them all day long. They are wonderful fishermen.

WOW, those shots are great!
I've never seen a heron fishing belly deep in the water.
Neat catch :)!

And it also amazes me that the plumage pattern of your blue herons and our gray ones is so different.
From the shots I've seen on the net so far, they looked very much alike.
With yours I could finally see the difference :)

Incredible photos of the heron. You have an amazing talent to get him from your lens. I haven't seen much bird life here as it is cold now. Lots of ducks still waiting for the hand out of bread from passing strangers...
Be well, my friend. ♥

He looks almost prehistoric.

What fun experiences you have! I was wondering how that bird could get food all the way down that neck! Awesome photos!

Great shots, FG!
I saw one of those fly over my house the other day. Which is strange cause there are no lakes near my house.
