The Winter Storm of 03.08.08

The storm warnings come to fruition. We received 4" of snow Friday, 20" on Saturday and 1" on Sunday. That gives NE Ohio a total of 25" for the storm. I will post picture when blogger starts cooperating.

Some unusual things occurred yesterday and this morning because of the storm.

1. The malls and a lot of local stores shut down by 1 PM on Saturday.

2. They shut down traffic on all roads in the area at 8PM to allow the snow plows free access to the roads.

3. The road in front of my house was plowed for the first time since the storm started last night. I now get to dig out the end of the driveway.

4. The Cleveland Airport is completely shut down for the day because they couldn't keep up with the snows.

I tried to keep up with the driveway and blew the snow off 4 times yesterday. The last time was about 7PM and we only received another inch since then. Except for the end of the driveway, I'm through with cleaning up our driveway. I cleaned off my car twice yesterday and will have to do it once more to actually be able to drive it.

My wife had done a lot of cooking during the week because of the ice storm on Tuesday making a lot more inside activities. We had plenty to eat and didn't have to go to the store for anything. That was a good thing since most of them were closed anyways. We had chili and stuffed peppers to satisfy our needs.

We watched "The Notebook" last night, from a Nicolas Sparks novel, because there wasn't much on TV. It is a beautiful written tale of love, life and aging. The story is about Duke (James Gardner) who is reading a notebook story to Allie (Gena Rowlands) in a nursing home. Duke has heart problems and Allie has Alzheimer's. Allie's illness has caused her to forget her life and family. Duke is trying to help her remember who she is. They flash from today in the nursing home to the past life pictorial to tell the story. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams play the couple in their past lives. The ending is well written and even in being sad you feel the beauty of the tale. A definite must see for a date night.
